A Restaurant + Local Butcher

The Block, a neighborhood establishment, harkens back to the days
when the local butcher shop was the cornerstone of the community.
We pay tribute to that era with a full-service meat counter
complemented by artisanal accouterments and a locally inspired,
seasonally changing restaurant menu.

About Us


Brothers-in-law Marc Del Pietro and Brian Doherty opened The Block Restaurant in Webster Groves in 2011 with Brian's wife (and Marc's sister-in-law), Lea Doherty. They opened a second location in the Central West End in 2013.

Marc Del Pietro

Chef Marc Del Pietro is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America. He has worked at The Ritz Carlton in Rancho Mirage, California; LeCirque in Manhattan for Chef Daniel Boulud and The Hotel De Paris in Monaco for Chef Alain Ducasse. After spending many years away, Marc returned to St. Louis to open many restaurants of his own before finding his culinary home at The Block.

Brian Doherty

Chef Brian Doherty is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America.  Brian worked in many prestigious kitchens in St. Louis before becoming Chef of Shiitake Restaurant in Clayton, Missouri now, co-chef at The Block.  He is very passionate about using local farmers, butchering in-house and bringing fresh, local ingredients to his customers.
